Work, Cryptography, Disgaea, Repeat

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Don’t fret, this blog is still active. Soon hikikomori will set in and I’ll be back to my usual routine.

And on another note; it has been a little over a year since this blog was first started. As of lately I’ve considered renaming it. It has never been considered an actual “journal”, but personally I think the word “blog” is a little over used. Suggestions anyone?

Fundamentals of XHTML

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

I’ve been recognized by the Business Professionals of America for having a superior understanding of the fundamentals of XHTML. Very rarely do I use the term “superior” but after placing first place at regionals I’ll be moving on to state competitions in Columbus Ohio this March. Some fellow friends and classmates (13 in all) also placed in similar competitive events such as C++, Java, and Payroll Accounting.

I’ve been working with HTML for eight years now, and PHP for almost four. Keeping up to date W3C documentation and following such standards is something I take serious pride in. But from what I’ve been told, the people who judge these events are chosen at random and are basically given a rubric to grade our work. I obviously know what I’m talking about and I can easily demonstrate my ability to follow standards, but there’s a big difference between demonstrating it and then doing it more efficiently. In such a case, they (the tests) won’t be graded accurately unless if the BPA can be serious and recruit some real web developers.

Some parts of the competitive events seem contradictive. XHTML emphasizes on standards, but what browsers will we be demonstrating our work in? You guessed it, Internet Explorer. And the editor we will be using? Notepad. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. I can work without syntax highlighting any day of the week, but don’t tell me it’s the only thing available. After a friendly debate with my CIS teacher, I discovered it’s because alternatives weren’t available to the BPA most likely due to licensing issues, causing unfairness for some contestants. (Ugh, I almost forgot! I should activate my copy of gedit before the 30 day trail runs out…) In addition to this; the horror stories that I’ve been told regarding the compilers made me avoid the programming events altogether.

Once again, the BPA needs to be serious about this. It’s like they are just throwing this stuff together and giving metals and plaques out at random.

Individualist

Friday, September 15th, 2006

I’ve been picked on in elementary school, bullied in middle school, and in highschool I discovered that kind guys always come last. Being sick and tired of being taken advantage of I decided it was time to stand up for myself. Not by physical force, but by making new standards to live by.

Individualist, n.: One that asserts individuality by independence of thought and action.

Being an Individualist is different from being selfish, antisocial, or a “loner”. A selfish person will keep everything they have and refuse to share, stepping over others to achieve there goals in the process whereas an individualist acknowledges the presence of those around him or her while respecting the individual liberty of others by refraining from initiating coercion against them. I won’t go out of my way to help or assist other people, however this does not make me a selfesh person: Being an individualist is a two bladed sword, in return I never ask of other people’s help or assistance.

Although keep in mind that “self-interest” is linguistically related to the word “selfish”, which has led to the two terms often being confused. Self-interest and selfishness are two entirely different things.

Lastly; an individualist embraces being alone, whereas a loner would become depressed. Individualism dose not restrict or limit ones social interactions therefor I do not consider myself to be antisocial, I just prefer a more independent lifestyle.

Now don’t get the idea that I’m trying to get some attention by complaining about my life, I am not a psychic vampire. Life sums up in three words; “Better than average” it never comes easy, it’s a savage world. It’s a harsh reality but this how I see things, perhaps now people will become more understanding as to why I live my life by such a moral code.

18th Birthday

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

It’s offical, as of 3am I am an adult.

Eighteen is also the age in most countries at which a person may appear in a pornographic video, if pornography is legal at all, or have sex with a person in a position of authority over them (a teacher, athletic coach, or employer, for instance, or in general anyone else over the age of 18).

In addition, eighteen year-olds in the United States have the right to bear arms, own property, marry without parental consent, get an abortion, donate their body to science, obtain a passport, and serve on a jury. With these new privileges come responsibility: eighteen year-olds are tried as adults in court.
